Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is hydro-testing and why does my cylinder need to be hydro-tested?

Hydro-testing is a method to test pressure cylinders for strength and leaks, ensuring they are within the U.S. Department of Transportation's safety standards. The test involves filling the cylinder with water and pressurizing the vessel to a specified test pressure to detect leaks and pressure loss. Strength is tested by measuring any permanent deformities of the container. Using this test maintains safety standards and durability of a cylinder over time. Testing pressure cylinders for transport and gas storage is very important as such containers can sheer if they fail under pressure. If your cylinders are in need of testing, give us a call today!

  • What type of cylinders does Rocky Mountain Air test?

We provide hydro-testing on all types of cylinders and tanks, including medical, beverage, SCBA, SCUBA, welding, paintball, aviation, refrigeration cylinders and fire extinguishers. We test high pressure cylinders up to 10,000 psi. All testing is performed within the U.S. Department of Transportation requirements. In addition to testing, we rent and sell used cylinders and fire extinguishers.

  • What services does Universal Cylinder Services offer for reconditioning cylinders?

We hydro-test cylinders, paint, valve and re-valve cylinders, bead blast (reconditions the outside of a cylinder), internally clean the cylinder, and replace handles, collars, O-rings, and other parts as needed. Give us a call if your cylinders need reconditioning today!

  • Does Universal Cylinder Services fill CO2?
